3rd Conference "Reconstruction and Restoration of Buildings"

3rd Conference "Reconstruction and Restoration of Buildings: Modern Technologies and Energy Effective Solutions" took place at Johannes Rau International Centre for Education and Exchange (IBB) in Minsk on May 24, 2012.
 
The Conference was organized by agency "Community Forums" and Republican Centre for Technology Transfer (RCTT) with support of the Baltic Sea Region project "COOL Bricks - Climate Change, Cultural Heritage & Energy Efficient Monuments".
 
The Conference gathered over 60 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Architecture and Construction, Belarusian Union of Builders, Belarusian Voluntary Society for Protection of Monuments of History and Culture, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, universities, R&D institutes, construction companies and construction materials companies. Dr. Alexander Uspenskiy, director of the RCTT, moderated the Conference. Participants listened to presentations and discussed issues related to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage and the energy efficiency of historic buildings. An excursion to multifunctional hotel complex "Garni" in historical part of Minsk (11, Internationalnaja Str.) which is currently under reconstruction was organized for participants.
 
Principal specialist of RCTT Aliaksei Uspenski made presentation "Energy efficient modernization of historic buildings. International experience".
 
A leaflet of the project COOL Bricks was distributed among the participants. Hand-out materials also included electronic copies of baseline studies of the project COOL Bricks in work packages "Policy Development" and "Technical Innovations".
 
After the conference participants adopted a resolution with recommendations to state authorities promoting assurance of compliance with UNESCO requirements on restoration of historical and cultural (architectural) values ​​and their inclusion in the list of World Cultural Heritage, improvement of national legislation on cultural heritage and its harmonization with EU legislation, improvement of international  technology and knowledge transfer.
