Summary
The MTTs-2М thickness gauge provides measuring of thickness of non-magnetic coatings (paint, lacquer, chrome, copper, zinc, etc.) on steel and other ferromagnetic bases in the range of 0÷5000 μm, and thickness of nickel coatings on non-magnetic and ferromagnetic bases in the range of 0÷100 μm with a single converter.
Description
The MTTs-2М thickness gauge provides measuring of thickness of
non-magnetic coatings (paint, lacquer, chrome, copper, zinc, etc.) on steel and
other ferromagnetic bases, and thickness of nickel coatings on non-magnetic and
ferromagnetic bases.

The MTTs-2М thickness gauge is registered in the State Register of Measuring
Devices of the Republic of Belarus (certificate of approval of a measurement
device type no. 2174) and the Russian Federation (certificate of approval of a
measurement device type no. 15804/2).
Technology type
Technical advantages and economic benefits
Advantages of the thickness gauge MTTs-2М as compared to known
prototypes:
– The new method of informative parameter measurement (induction of a
secondary magnetic field) automatically excludes the impact of the primary
magnetizing field on the results of measurements;
– A single converter provides measurement of thickness of non-magnetic
coatings on steel, nickel coatings on steel and non-magnetic bases, without
adjusting the thickness gauge to the thickness range and types of coatings;
– High resolution (tenths of micrometer for non-magnetic and nickel coatings
on steel, one hundredths of micrometer for nickel coatings on non-magnetic
bases of small thickness);
– Results of measurements are independent from electrical properties of
coatings and bases.
Technology differentiation and uniqueness
The MTTs-2М thickness gauge is based on the magnetodynamic method of control, thus the measured signal does not contain a non-information component due to the magnetization field of the converter; the result is high resolution, which provides a wide range of measurements. High-coercivity material having a high residual magnetization and small overall dimensions of the magnet (not more than Ø5×5 mm); a mere point contact with the surface of the coating provides high locality of measurements, and the relatively high magnetization of the field provides a uniform grading when measuring thickness of non-ferromagnetic coatings on steels of various grades.
Context in which technology was identified
The MTTs-2М thickness gauge has been introduced and is used by many national businesses (RUE “Minsk Tractor Works”, PRUP “Minsk Automobile Plant”, PA “Belarusian Automobile Plant” Zhodino, JSC “Amkodor”, OJSC “Motovelo”, etc.), as well as by some foreign companies (JSC “Nizhnedneprovsk Pipe Rolling Plant”, Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine; OJSC “Kremenchug wheel factory”, Kremenchug, Ukraine; limited production and promotional company “Svarkon”, Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic; FGUP PA “Zlatoust Machine-Building Plant”, Zlatoust, Chelyabinsk region, Russian Federation, and others).
