Summary
Structurally highly dispersional silumin modificators are general-purpose modificators ensuring effective structure reduction and improvement for parts made of steel, cast iron, bronze, brass and silumins. This presupposes modification of all basic alloy phase components. The modificators are environmentally friendly; they are completely soaked into moldings and produce no slags.
Description
The modificators consist of silumin with rather small portions of Ca, Mg, Sb, Ti, rare-earth metals, Fe added to the substance. Structurally highly dispersional silumin modificators comply with the following requirements to general-purpose modificators: they are quite readily fusible; produce no slags on modification; have the maximum in-melt soaking degree; they are characterized by refining and degassing capability and a considerable chemical affinity to oxygen, sulphur, nitrogen and hydrogen. The modificators have the form of ingots, pieces of various fractions. High performance efficiency of the modificator is strengthened by its highly dispersional structure. The modificator is cost low and is produced in a simple and highly-efficient process developed by the State Scientific Institution “Institute of Metallurgic Technologies of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”. The process is based on hardening solidification casting procedure and casting into jet mold. Modificator survivability is not less than 1.5 hour.
Technology type
Technical advantages and economic benefits
These are general-purpose and environmentally friendly modificators; they modify all basic alloy phases. They are capable of improving molding and ingot quality and reduce casting production cost.
Technology differentiation and uniqueness
The innovative component is represented by a highly-dispersional modificator structure: eutectic silicon grains are of 0,2…4 μm in size. This ensures a significant improvement in efficiency and survivability of modification process.
Context in which technology was identified
VIIth International Research and Technology symposium in Samara (Russia) in 2008 and the International Research and Technology conference BelOLiM in 2008.

Practical experience
The modificators were used for modification of steels, cast irons, bronzes, brasses and silumins. All applications exhibited highly efficient results. When used for casting of silumins the modificator reduces both primary and eutectic silicon grains. The modificator proved to modify cast iron structure at less than 1300 °C. And the resulting moldings had no chills but incorporated vermicular and spheroidal graphite. Modification process survivability was not less than 1.5 hour. The modificators are tested by Private Unitary Enterprise “VIPRA” (Gomel), Republican Unitary Production Enterprise “BelAZ” (Mogilev).
