Summary
Multifunctional installation LT-201 is a device with hardware and software designed to analyze the properties of surfactants and their mixtures on the water surface to form a monolayer (monomolecular) films and solid surface functionalization by mono-and multilayers, the creation of nanoscale periodic structures.
Description
Multifunctional installation LT-201 includes a module for
the formation of films with roller technologies, layerwise deposition
module, substrate movement module and electronic control unit. Module
for the formation of films with roller technologies consists of a
Teflon base with two linearly movable barriers and is equipped with two
sensors measuring surface tension liquid force. The application of this
module can make possible withdrawing isotherms “surface pressure - area
per molecule” and estimate of the minimum “landing” area occupied by a
molecule in the monolayer. According to the isotherms characterization
of phase transformations occurring in monolayers during the process of
their formation is possible. Apart from traditional vertical method of
formation of mono-and multimolecular films of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) on
a solid surface, there is a possibility of detection of defect-free
monolayers using the method of "horizontal deposition ", as well as
modification of flexible polymer carriers using the roller
technologies. In the latter case, in the function of a barrier dividing
the working area of the module into two compartments (1 – application
compartment and 2 - selection matter compartment) a rotating drum is
used through which molecules move from the compartment (1) to the
compartment (2) until the selection pressure defined by the user is
reached. Film selection on the flexible polymer basis is done via the
tape deck. The dispenser which controls the flow of matter, revolving
barrier and tape deck mechanism are connected by the feedback system
under the control of the electronics.
The process of selection to
the substrate fixed on a rotating barrier of alternating layers of
different compounds is also implemented.
The module of
layer-selection makes it possible to create functional coatings from a
solution (self-assembled monolayers, as well as alternating layers
formed by layer deposition). The automatic deposition of multilayers
from solution and LB films is also possible.
Experimental data are written to a file and used later for processing, visualization and analysis of results.
LT-201 can be used in research and industrial laboratories, as well as part of academic activities at universities.
Technology type
Technical advantages and economic benefits
A set of LT-201, in contrast to the existing analogs, can:
-
form defect-free monomolecular films with of 1 nm thickness by the
method of horizontal deposition with minimal distortion of the film
structure during the process of deposition;
- combine the automatic layer selection from the water surface and from solution;
- embed in polymers and isolate practically any nanomaterials;
- form alternating layers without a break;
- modify the surface of an area of ten square meters with roller technologies.
Economic
efficiency presents itself in the fact that the complex can compete
with the most complex existed analogous devices, can perform
complementary functions at the comparable cost of the equipment without
high skill requirements from its users.
Technology differentiation and uniqueness
New technology.
Context in which technology was identified
