Summary

Personal clusters are a new computer hardware line. They are cheap “personal supercomputers” which can be connected to a common plug. Address audience of the “personal supercomputers” is academic and scientific societies, large corporations, educational institutions and enterprises. Personal clusters “SKIF-Triada” are used as devises which have both PC and supercomputers features providing a possibility to use technology of supercomputers in individual organizations, subdivisions, as well as for PC computing.

Description

“SKIF-Triada” models are PC with parallel architecture. They are as simple to work and control as usual PC.
Personal clusters are developed for independent scientific computing, computer design, data bulk processing, etc. and as an additional device for high-powered cluster systems, program design, data preparation and preliminary calculations. Personal clusters “SKIF-Triada” can be used for complex high-powered scientific and engineering computing and modeling as fail-safe web-servers, mail servers, database servers and other applications.
Within the frame of Triade program held by the Union State, developing of clusters “SKIF-Triada” was finished. There were several models developed in the line. Capacity range of personal clusters “SKIF-Triada” is 50GFl – 500GFl.
In personal clusters “SKIF-Triada” several basic form factors are used (Fig. 1).

Personal clusters are produced in UE “NIIEVM”. The clusters can be produced starting from 2009.

Being reasonably priced, personal clusters enable users to adapt to computer technology with parallel architecture which changes traditional style of interaction with computers. Personal clusters enable development of parallel computing application methods for various application tasks which can be easily transferred to supercomputers configuration. Use of native personal clusters can solve the problem of import substitution in the field.

Context in which technology was identified

Prototype model 2 is used in TB dispensary in Minsk as a high-powered computing device in distributed telemedicine real time system on digital fluorography. Cluster is connected to 16 polyclinics of the city united in one corporate telecommunication network.
