Summary

Hardware-and-software complexes DISKAN, DISKAN-M have been developed for piece-by-piece scanning of large size images followed by automatic clip in one raster file, and are in practice cheap analogues of large-format roll and drum scanners. Significant advantage of the complexes in comparison with large-format scanners is their low costs, a possibility of vision tracking of scanner guidance on the following part of an image, automatic clip of scanned image fragments, high optical resolution scanning, and a possibility to input data in vector format, a possibility of image scanning, bring on a hard base surface.

Description

Hardware-and-software complexes DISKAN, DISKAN-M have been developed for piece-by-piece scanning followed by automatic clip in one raster file (in practice the complexes are cheap analogues of large-format roll and drum scanners). Significant advantage of the complexes in comparison with large-format scanners is their low costs, a possibility of vision tracking of scanner guidance on the following part of an image, automatic clip of scanned image fragments, high optical resolution scanning, and a possibility to input data in vector format, a possibility of image scanning, brought on a hard base surface.

Application area:
- creation of digital maps and location plans;
- conversion of document of engineering design department, scientific research and design institutions and other enterprises and organizations which create and store engineering documentation archives in a digital form;
- conversion of accumulated in CIS countries city maps archives and other localities, mapped at present on cardboard and metallic storage mediums of 600x600 mm which are not scanned by large-format roll scanners;
- in cadastral systems (city, land cadastre and others).

Technical characteristics:

Size of scanned document Not limited
Document types Coloured, gray-scale, black-and-white
Document media type Paper, cardboard, plywood, aluminium
Document thickness Up to 7 mm
Scanning device Small-format flatbed scanner for A4, A4+ formats
Digitizer Stationary or portable (sectional) (A0, A1)

Minimal requirements to computer

Pentium-4, 256Mb RAM, 4Gb HDD, Win 98

Technology type

Technical advantages and economic benefits

Hardware-software complexes for large size images input DISKAN in comparison with other analogous devises (large-format roll and drum scanners) have the following advantages:
- low costs;
- possibility to scan unlimited size images;
- possibility to scan images brought on a hard base surface (including, for example, topographic plans brought on metallic base surface) up to 7 mm thick;
- automatic clip of scanned image fragments, vision tracking of scanner guidance on the following part of the image;
- clip accuracy control;
- high optical resolution of scanning (depends on packaged scanner index mark) usually no less than 1200 dpi;
- output image format is BMP, JPEG or TIFF;
- possibility of data input in vector format.
