Summary

The recommendations set up the system of conservative, forestry-based and special measures providing for inexhaustible use and productivity increase of blackberry on specialized areas for commercial harvesting of berries.

Description

The recommendations comprise general conditions, ecologic-and-biological characteristics of blackberry, description of organizational (organization of harvesting, berry-field saving, blackberry preservation), forestry-based (caring for plantings and berry-fields, formation of berry-field light conditions), and special (rejuvenation of natural blackberry beds, spray mineral elements application) measures for increase in blackberry productivity; cost effectiveness analysis of carrying out the abovementioned measures.

Technical advantages and economic benefits

Application of the recommendations provides for productivity increase by 50%. The economic effectiveness of their implementation makes approx. 500 thous. ruble/ ha (in prices of 2008). Moreover, blackberry areas degradation is prevented as a result of recreational load reduction, preservation of biodiversity and reinforcement of wood ecological function are provided, and employment of rural people are increase as well.

The recommendations are registered on April 06, 2007 in the normative documents register of the Forestry Ministry of the Republic of Belarus No 000074, are accepted and put into operation by the Order of the Forestry Minister of the Republic of Belarus No 101 of May 02, 2007, place of publication: “Scientific and Technical Information in Forestry”, Issue 5. - Minsk, 2007 - pp. 18-36.
