Summary

Technology of growing edible roots is meant for growing table beet, carrot, and radish on narrow-purpose beds in all agroclimatic zones of the country.

Description

Technology provides for twin-row single-seed carrot planting using combined seeder unit AKP-4 on beds 15 cm high with deep under bed chiselling, which provides high output commercial storage roots (more than 80%) and crop yield up to 90 ton/hectare. Planting of table beet and radish is carried out on beds 8-10 cm high, without deep tillage. Mid-row processing and tillage of space between rows is carried out by cultivator KOU 4/6 with passive and active actuators and local application of pesticides and soluble mineral fertilizers.

Technology type

Technical advantages and economic benefits

The technology of production of edible roots on narrow-purpose beds provides improvement of microbiologic and physical soil properties during the period of vegetable growing, increase of carrot yield by 25% and table beet by 29%, reduction of nitrate nitrogen level, delivering standard storage root up to 90 %, reduction of soil hardness in plant root zones, reduction of pesticides consumption by 1.5-2 times due to local application, reduction of seed consumption by 40% due to single-seed of seeding and reduction of energy consumption during harvesting.

Technology differentiation and uniqueness

The use of original machines developed and produced in the Republic of Belarus for planting and crop care.

Context in which technology was identified

International Specialized Exhibition “Belagro” in 2004-2008, received the Golden Prize on exhibition “The Day of Russian Fields - 2006”
