Summary
As a result of the project implementation, it is proposed to create a compact solid-state two-frequency (281 and 355 nm) ultraviolet source of radiation for applications in lidar stations intended for ozone distribution sounding in troposphere, including in the vicinity of industrial enterprises. The technology for creating a radiation source is based on the use of a diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser and nonlinear optical effects (harmonics generation and stimulated Raman scattering).
Description
The two-frequency radiation source includes a pulsed Nd:YAG laser with second and third harmonic generators, a Raman laser on a barium nitrate crystal generating radiation with a wavelength near 562 nm, a second harmonic generator converting this radiation to the ultraviolet (UV) range, and an opto-mechanical system for forming two parallel propagating beams with wavelengths of 355 and 281 nm.

Technology Benefits
Advantages of the proposed approach are the possibility of creating an all-solid-state laser system, its compactness. The radiation at both wavelengths (281 and 355 nm) is determined by physical properties of the laser and nonlinear optical crystals used and does not require special stabilization measures. It is possible to create a mobile version of the source. Such sources can be used to create national ozone monitoring systems.
